Joshua Opdenaker began his art career by studying stone carving and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of the Arts in 2002. After using traditional stone carving methods to carve extensive pieces for four years, he decided to learn a more immediate medium.
glass sculpting was a natural progression for him and he began
working with glass every day. He believes that the beauty in glass sculpting comes from the never-ending struggle for perfection in theory and in execution. For Joshua, the art is not in the finished piece itself, rather, the art is in the process of physically making the work. His work has been exhibited all over the world, with a large body of work in Philadelphia. He is a resident artist at Philadelphia Glass Works where he continues to express his ideas through glass and still finds time to teach classes.
